Internship Options

The following internship options are offered at the Feminist Women's Health Center during the summer, and many of them are offered during other times during the school year. Need an Internship Application? Click Here

___ Legislative Internship: Assists with mobilizing people in various communities or settings to voice support for full access to reproductive freedom. Work with other staff and volunteers of the Health Center to coordinate activist/volunteer/supporter recruitment and mobilization.  Works with other staff and volunteers in furthering educational and legislative goals of the Feminist Women’s Health Center. ___ Event Planning and Special Events Internship: You will assist with the planning and implementation of a fundraising event that builds awareness about Feminist Women’s Health Center. Events may include “Choice Celebration,” an annual event which benefits the Young Women’s Leadership Project, a Lunch & Learn series, a Leadership Luncheon, and other events. Prepares you for a position in event planning and fundraising. People skills, listening skills, organizational skills, and a desire to learn are needed. (Since the Choice Celebration event committee meets frequently in the evening. This internship involves a commitment to evening hours more than other internships.)

___ Clinical Internship: You will help with work in our clinic, which offers the full range of reproductive health services, observing many aspects of providing services to a diverse population of women. Prepares you for a position in women's health or medicine. Perfect for premed, nursing, or med tech students. People skills, listening skills and a desire to learn are needed.

___ Counseling Internship: You will help with work in our clinic which offers the full range of reproductive health services, observing many aspects of providing counseling to a diverse population of women. Prepares you for a counseling position. Listening skills, people skills, and a desire to learn are needed.
* Please note that at this time we are not able to provide practicums/supervision for master’s students.

___ Reproductive Medicine Internship: You will help with work at our clinic with our donor insemination program. Depending on the goals for that quarter, the internship could include writing newsletter articles on fertility issues, assisting with marketing and educational meetings, research, etc. Prepares you for a career in reproductive health. Organizational and writing skills, and attention to detail are needed.

___ Grant Development Internship: You will help work in a variety of fundraising activities such as grant research, direct mail appeals, special events and our donor database. Prepares you for a position in development or just about any position in a nonprofit organization. Fundraising is crucial to any work in a nonprofit. Writing and organization skills, and attention to detail are needed.

___ Grassroots Organizing Internship (Volunteer Recruitment): You will help recruit and coordinate volunteers into the planned activities of the Center. Recruitment skills and experience are the foundation of many aspects of non-profit work in advocacy, fundraising, training, and organizing programs. People skills, enthusiasm, phone aptitude and planning skills are needed.

___ Grassroots Organizing Internship (Community Outreach): (Spring & Summer internship only). You will assist with organizing outreach events, such as tables in festivals, health fairs, and other venues for raising awareness and recruitment for FWHC. Prepares you for a position in grassroots organizing, politics, leadership and other non-profit work. People skills, enthusiasm, phone aptitude, and organizing skills are needed.

___ Lesbian Health Internship: You will assist with material preparation, marketing, and program development of our Chrysalis Project, a health empowerment program for young lesbian, bisexual or questioning women. Prepares you for a position in marketing, program development, and health education. People skills, writing and organizational skills are needed. Must be a lesbian or bisexual woman.

___ Medical Students for Choice Internship: Please contact Feminist Women's Health Center if you are a medical student interested in this option. A separate application process is necessary.

___ Men Against Sexism Outreach Internship:You will be responsible for much of the Center's outreach, education and recruitment efforts targeted to men who are supportive of the mission of the National Organization for Men Against Sexism ("NOMAS"). These efforts are the result of a joint venture with the NOMAS, the oldest pro-feminist men's group in the U.S. The types of activities will include staffing a table at festival, speaking at group's meeting, responding to inquiries, posting notices in free media calendars and list serves, and others. Skills needed are writing and organizational, as well as an outgoing personality.

___ Latina Outreach Internship: You will help recruit and coordinate volunteers into the planned activities of the Center targeted towards young Latina women. You will assist with organizing outreach events, such as tables in festivals, health fairs, house meetings, and other venues for raising awareness and recruitment for FWHC. Prepares you for a position in grassroots organizing, health education, leadership and other non-profit work. People skills, enthusiasm, phone aptitude, and organizing skills are needed.

___ Political Organizing Internship: With a number of restrictive legislative attacks on women's reproductive freedom, the Center will need to boost its public education efforts, and this internship will be focused on grassroots and educational strategies to assist with defeating these attacks. During the winter internship, the main project will be our lobby week, along with assisting our education of our supporters on key issues. Prepares you for a position in politics, community organizing, and lobbying. Organizing, writing, and people skills are needed.

___ Public Relations/Marketing Internship:You will focus on writing or researching for materials used in our marketing and public relations strategies on the Center's programs and services. This internship will also include updating media and referral lists, organizing marketing mailings, and other functional aspects of marketing. There may also be an opportunity to write media kits, alerts, and releases. You will help maintain and improve our web site, research and establish links, and register our site in a variety of engines. Prepares you for a position in marketing, internet jobs, and community services. Skills needed include knowledge of internet and an aptitude for computer work. HTML knowledge is helpful, but not necessary. Prepares you for a position in P/R, marketing, journalism, and community services. Skills needed include attention to detail, phone skills and evidence of good writing skills.

___ Training Internship: You will assist with our training program including a "how-to" put a training together, material and training development, and speech preparation. Prepares you a position in community outreach, training or public speaking. Writing, organization and people skills are needed.

___ Women of Color Outreach Internship: You will assist with material preparation, marketing, and program development of our educational and outreach programs targeted to reach women of color. Prepares you for a position in marketing, program development, and health education. People skills, writing and organizational skills are needed .
